Here we have a clean Vintage SPIERS PLANE-O-AYR, Scottish, Heavy Infill Smooth Plane with 8" x 2.5" Sole. StewartSpiers was a small but innovative firm of plane-makers in Scotland, founded inAyr in Ayrshire, Scotland in 1840 and operating until approx. the mid 1930’s. I believe that this style was offered during or just after the first World War. I'm not sure what wood was used for the infill, bun and tote. The tote appear to have a repaired horn spur. Ve...ry nice job. The body, sole and mouth are in very, very good condition !! The plane is fitted with a nice thick cutting iron made by Robert Sorby, Sheffield, England and is 2-1/4" wide. The fit is very good and makes for a 'tight mouth' at the opening. The lever cap has the maker info. Nice heavy plane weighing approx. 4 lbs. No owners marks. No cracks, breaks or repairs in the metal parts of the plane. **Please remember to leave Feedback. I will gladly reciprocate. :-)
