In this auction you will be bidding on a 1937 Pre WW-2 Kar-98 22 Caliber Conversion Kit Used to train all branches of the German Military. You may notice in the pictures that the inside of the wooden case has the name: LTC Francis D. Dooling, Ser No. 024-22-9874. The outside of the case has the same stenciling as the interior but will not show because of age in pictures. This item was purchased from his son, It did have a set of capture papers but he would not include them with the kit.... The Barrel, Mag Well, & Receiver are serial number 4551. The Bolt and its components are all marked serial number 4566. Clearly this bolt was part of a unit where both serial numbered kits were issued, how they got switched? Who knows. The unit works perfectly and groups consistently. I will describe each item in the set to be as honest to condition as possible.1) The wooden case, at some point in time before it was captured, has about 7 inches of the top of the case sheared off starting at a knot hole. Wood on the outside is very dark and shows handling / patina. The retaining hooks are present and keep the case closed. Inside of case is a light colored wood with the usual oil staining from the metal parts.2) The mag well, displays about 90% original blue finish with a lot of fine and medium scratches. Mag catch is tight and holds the mags firmly in place. No sign of rust or pitting at all.3) Both the magazines hold 5 rounds each (2), one mag displays about 80% original finish it is marked: ERMA, ERFURT 1938. The follower is strong and holds the 22 caliber rounds securely. The second mag displays about 90% original finish and is marked: ERMA ERFURT 1936.The follower is strong and holds the 22 caliber rounds securely. No pitting on either mag. Again both mags hold 5 rounds of 22 caliber ammunition.4) The take down tool, about 80% finish with proof mark on the end, knurling is in very good condition.
