CBI Air Transport Command Pilot’s A-2 Jacket. Capt. Carl. G. Triest – 2nd Ferrying Group – China Burma India. The A-2 label does not state manufacturer, but states order number 42-18246-P. This order was manufactured by S.H. Knopf Mfg on May 18th, 1942. This was a small run and was the only contract this manufactured produced during the war. A-2 flight jacket adorned with a rare variation Blood Chit in leather with (embroidered) characters. The jacket has all original knit elemen...ts, original zipper fully functional, original U.S. government contract spec label, inspectors stamp, evidence of leather name strip now removed, and leather Captain’s bars on epaulets. The leather body is in solid original condition with typical use wear. There are no cracks or tears in the leather around collar, shoulders or rest of jacket except for one small 1" mended crack on left arm leather about 1" down from shoulder seem. Accompanying the grouping is a wartime photo of Triest with his crew and C-87 transport aircraft, along with a unit history book from the 2nd Ferrying Group which features information on Triest in the book while in combat. Also included is an original document showing Triest and his crew and aircraft in service. This jacket came directly from the family some years ago.Jacket Size label has been sewn over when blood chit was sewn onto back, so size is not discernible. Measurements: Armpit to armpit is 22" when zippered and laid flat. Shoulder seam to shoulder seam at the top back is 19" laid flat. Collar seam to the bottom of the back leather is 23" (not including waist band) laid flat.
