Maria Martinez of San Ildefonso Pueblo is probably the most famous of all pueblo potters. She and her husband, Julian, discovered in 1918 how to produce the now-famous black-on-black pottery and they spent the remainder of their careers perfecting and producing it for museums and collectors worldwide. According to the webpage of Adobe Gallery in Santa Fe, Marie & Santana signatures indicate that the pottery was made... between 1943 and 1954.I don’t know anything about pottery. I found this pieces of pottery at a garage sale in Albuquerque.Photos are the description. This dishes are signed Marie & Santana. One dish is 6.5” by 1.5” (rub marks on dish). The other dish is 6" by 1". These dishes are at least 66 years old. Study the photos as this is my best description. No chips. No returns. One dish has rub marks on dish, review photos, as this is my best description. Very hard to photograph black pottery.
