Movedto New Orleans, La., June 16-July 5; thence to Indianola, Texas, July 6-10.March to Green Lake and duty there till September 12. March to San AntonioSeptember 12-24. Camp at Salada Creek till November. Provost duty at SanAntonio and other points in Texas till May, 1866. Mustered out at Houston, Texas, May 26, and discharged at Detroit, Mich., June 10, 1866. Arrived there on the 18th and was assigned to 3rdBrigade, 3rd Division, 4th Army Corps, Army of the Cumberland.· March 23rd Took up line of march by railtraveling through East Tennessee, until reaching Knoxville on March 25th.· March 26th Proceeded to Strawberry Plainsand marched to New Market, Tenn. the next day.· March 29th Marched to Painter’s Springsand to Russelville the day afterward.· March 31st Arrived at Bull’s Gap andstayed until April 4th, when it marched through Greenville and then Rayton onthe following day.· April 7th Arrived at Jonesboro andremained there until April 20th.· April 27th Returned to Nashville andremained encamped there until June 16th.· June 16th Traveled by rail cars toJohnsonville. There the regiment, along with the rest of the corps, boardedsteam transports and traveled the Tennessee, Ohio, and Mississippi rivers untildisembarking on June 24th at New Orleans, Louisiana. The detachment of men fromthe original Fourth Michigan Infantry joins the regiment there and they remainin New Orleans until July 6th. The regiment is now attached to the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, 4th Army Corps.· July 6th The regiment boards steamtransports and set out for Indianola, Texas, where they arrive on July 10th.· July 10th March towards Green Lake andarrive there on the next day and the regiment becomes part of the Dept. of Texas to May, 1866. Theregiment remains there until September 11th and is attached to the Dept. ofTexas for the remainder of it’s military service.· September 11th Set out for San Antonio and march a distance of onehundred and seventy miles and reach Salada Creek, eight miles from SanAntonio, on the 24th. They remain there for two months before being orderedinto the city for provost duty.· May 26th, 1866 The Reorganized FourthMichigan Infantry is mustered out of Federal service and proceeds to Galveston, Texas. There, it takes the steamer to New Orleans, Louisiana, and from there toCairo, Illinois. At Cairo the regiment boards the rail cars and travels toDetroit, Michigan, where it was paid off and disbanded on June 10th.
