German WW II Waffen M42 Type 1 reversible smock NICE!! Thisis a “brick” color oak variation smock, most collectors agree they are originalWW II made, some do not. A large number of bales of these smocks werediscovered in Czechoslovakia in the 1980’s. Smocks on the outside of bales wereruined by rodent and water damage while sitting 30+ years on the damp factoryfloor; those in the center were shielded and were in good shape. This smockcame from the center of a bale. The HBT pocket bags are unmarked and have three very small cuts period resewn it appears. Prices are going up and these don't come up often, don't miss a chance fro a real WW II camo smock!!Features arm ventilation slits and all buttons marked same FR 1942. ++pan down to see all photos++All needed to be washed to sanitize and clean them then wereshipped to Austria and sold. I, like many others believe too muchwork went into these to think they were repros; only difference between this smockand other oak or plane tree camo smocks is the slight color variation.About Waffen SS brick smock details… M42 Type 1Found by Johannes Flock in Czechoslovakia, a single largebatch tied in separate bales with water, mold, and rodent damage. Most haveseam and other imprints from other smocks from being pressed together so long. Allused Roller printing and double needle stitching, all pointing to big, established factory production capable of achieving a reasonable economy ofscale. Never cheap when it comes down to over-heads and the fixed costs of suchan operation. The bolts of cloth that the brick smocks are made from arethe pre- war type which was just over 3 foot wide. A master tailor in hisseventies measured the selvage at the end of the cuff in a way only a tailorcould do and said it had been made frombolts of cloth that were the widest you could get before WW2. The selvage atthe cuff end was the manufacturer using the ends of the bolt which is verystrong so it does not unravel. The way the selvage is woven is a pre-WW2 way of doingthis. You sometimes see this on the scrap wool joined together on the reverseside of WW2 German shoulder boards. After WW2, the width of salvage on a boltof cloth was woven tighter, stronger, and narrower when compared to what wasmade before WW2. I ship worldwide and always combine shipping!
