~ PEONY Pattern ~ Small Songbirds Surrounded by Flowers ~ Imari Palette Richly Gilded ~
~*~7” high to top of finial ~ 10 1/2” from spout to handle
A lovely oval prow shaped Coalport Imari teapot lavishly decorated in cobalt blue, peach or pink and brilliant red with detailed gilding. The pattern features panels and cartouches with songbirds and smaller flowers centered around a large p...eony. The peony isn’t shown on the teapot although it features prominently on the large pieces in this service, see the small inset of dinner plates in the fourth picture.
My google research found a teapot with the same shape, spout, handle and knop identified as Anstice, Horton & Rose circa 1805 and others labeled just John Rose Coalport.~In excellent antique display condition; there is some old repair on the inside of the lid with some of the overpaint peeling, see pic. The outside of the lid displays fine except for some wear to the gilding around the edges and top of the finial; the knop has never been off or broken. There is a patch of very fine spider lines on the base which are shallow and not threatening. The handle, spout and lid rest are all in excellent condition.
This teapot displays stunningly with 98% of the gilding to the teapot intact and lustrous, the white porcelain is clean and uncrazed and the imari enamel colors are vibrant, a real beauty!
