For sale is a cute figural inkwell or salt / spice dish made by KPM around 1830. A bit unusual that is was left in the white as one usually sees them painted or gilded. Really quite nice as the modeling is superb and there is no color to distract from that. The figurine is of a cherub holding a beer mug over a well as if to scoop water from it into the cup. I am not sure what this piece is really meant to be but it is usually described as being an open salt dish. I thought the beer mug... he is holding might be good for a feather quill type pen but that is just me and my imagination. Either way it is a super piece. There is a figurine of a cherub or angel with a quiver full of arrows on his back. He is wearing a cloth that goes around the back and looks like it flows freely back there. The detail is superb. The well has a brick top and greenery growing up the bottom sides. The piece is in good condition with the end of his right wing chipped off which is not obvious when on display and a quite a few small black spots from the manufacturing process as shown. The piece is 4.125 inches tall, 3 inches wide and 3.75 inches deep. It is marked with the under glaze blue scepter mark underneath as well as an impressed number 45 by the edge.
