Red Wing Pottery Nokomis Vase Shape 196. Arts and Crafts era vase. Circa 1930's. Vase is 10 1/2" inches tall and 6 inches wide at mid section. In excellent condition no chips or cracks. Shipped insured with USPS Priority Mail.
Top opening flares to 4 1/4". Base beneath the stylish 6" bulge is 4 1/2".
It is stamped on the underside with the circular blue-glaze seal "Red Wing Pottery".
This vase is from Pennsylvania and is in beautiful condition - no damage of any ki...nd. The vase is original condition and not washed, so a bit of dust on interior.
According to the Minnesota Historical Society, Nokomis vessels were cast in slip in plaster molds and produced around 1926-1929, so this imposing vase is soon to be a centenarian. The glaze was described by the company as "a metallic finish in gray and tan with a tint of copper".
Serious collectors today agree that all 18 classic shapes decorated in this impressionistic hand-glaze were marketed ahead of their time.
Nokomis vessels are found in matte, semi-matte, and glossy surface finishes.
