Parianware is a marble like unglazed porcelain body developed during the 1840s and was used successfully for sculptured pieces. It was named by Minton, after Paros, a Greek island renown for it's fine textured, white marble of the same name. Parian was essentially designed to imitate carved marble . It was first made in England in 1846. They are cast in moulds for small busts and figurines. This figurine measures 12" high x 5" x 5 3/4" at the base. It is incised on the back of th...e base 'J&TB - 219. I would say that she appears to be looking out to the sea. She has a partial gown wrapped around he waist to the floor, bare feet and has a fish net draped over her shoulder to the floor. She has a beautiful face. No reserve.
