I buy vintage linens at local estate auctions to pass them along to you, and recently found a great cache of linens that had been saved for decades.
This is an antique Chinese tablecloth made of woven silk in a pale gold color. It measures 41" square and has very lovely embellishments of embroidery and drawnwork. This has a large center square with an embroidered dragon that measures 17" square. All around the dragon there are four panels measuring 15" long by ...6" wide, each one framed with a 0.75" border of elaborate drawnwork, and each corner has a 6" square containing a Chinese character. The embroideries in the four panels are all different, leading me to wonder if they represent the four seasons. The embroidery is quite raised and has a nice shine, so I believe it is done in silk. Please use the zoom function to see all the great details.
This is in excellent condition, with no holes, rips, or funky odors. I did find a small cluster of spots on one edge, as shown in the last photo. Otherwise, it is in lovely shape, soft and drapey and not brittle. It's a wonderful find.
I am storing this in my smoke-free home, but I do have a cat who sheds copiously, so be aware if you have allergies. Please contact me for more information or photos. I am happy to combine items to save on shipping, so check my other listings too. Thanks for looking!
