Nikon F w/Photomic Flag Finder
Up for bids is this vintage classic Nikon F camera body with an early Photomic Flag Finder. This model is especially uncommon as it carries a 'red dot' preceding its serial number to indicate that it was one of the factory modified models that can mount the Photomic T finder. Specifically, the modification was a lowering of the raised lip along the back edge of the finder cavity to top plate level. Nikon offered... it at the time as a standard upgrade, but serial number production was not sequential, so very few of these pop up on the used market and as such are highly sought after; especially any that begin with a 66 serial number.
Introduced in 1959, the Nikon F camera introduced the concept of the 35 mm single-lens reflex camera (SLR) system; that is to say, it introduced a lineup of interchangeable parts connected to the camera body, thus revolutionizing photography as we knew it. The Nikon F reigned supreme as the professional system for the next 2 decades and set the standard by which all others would strive to attain.This particular unit up for auction features the metered Photomic Flag finder which paved the way for built in light meters in Nikon's SLRs. The finder also includes the Acceptance Angle Converter, which often gets lost. As you can see from the photos, the camera body is in very good condition for its age with decent paint and some typical scratches. Some wear as expected. Finder has a ding on the corner, and some external scratches. As cosmetic condition is subjective, I have photographed all sides for you to draw your own assessment. The meter needle was responding with a fresh set of batteries which is quite unusual. Don't know how accurate it is however. The camera body I think needs service to the components that raise the mirror when the shutter release is clicked. As it is now, when the release is pressed, the mirror raises slowly, and not fast enough to trigger the opening of the shutter.Typical to any vintage camera, a CLA (Clean, lube adjustment) and new seals would be recommended if the goal is to put it back into service.This auction includes:1 - F camera body serial #6601778
