This is an original vintage made purpose built gunstock for a camera. This is NOT one of those adapted from a rifle. One would hold it with both hands, machine-gun style, and focus with one hand by squeezing the wooden lever and taking a picture with the other hand by pulling the trigger. The piece comes with its original vintage made heavy leather, the wood is in very nice looking shape overall and looks great. On top of it, there was / is a half circle bracket where the lens w...ould rest, i am not sure what camera / lens combination would fit on it, but you can tell this was no piece made in a rush, it required much engineering and execution for its outcome. I believe this unit was built by Leica, or at least for a Leica with a Mooly motor??, looking at the camera release actuator and how it operates, mainly because where the trigger lever would actuate the taking of the picture, is just too low for a camera top, unless it used some sort of extension somehow, but am not sure. Also what leads me to believe this, is that with both hands being "busy" on the gun stock, one would have a hard time winding / cranking the camera. But maybe only made for one shot at a time, but again, not sure. At the same time, the focusing lever / zooming?? action is a back and forth actuator, that would adapt to the lens somehow. The half moon piece will be included, but would need to be put on again, and the wood fixed in that spot as it cracked right at the place of the screw where the rounded piece stays in place. If you use a shorter lens, you can still use it without this piece on. Can not find a stamp on it, but even the leather strap attaching points and brackets are high quality made, very similar like the ones on the Leica gun-stock. I can tell you with certainty that this piece has been in a private collection since the mid-60's. The Gun Stock measures 26 inches long and about 8 inches at its tallest point. This gun stock is certainly one of a kind, maybe a prototype of some sort, or at the most only a few produced. Considering what the known Leica Gun-Stocks and their astronomical prices, this one should be a great bargain. Please see pictures, sold at no reserve.
