Leica M6 Classic (Solms) Black Body 0. 85 Schwarz Late And Rare
Item History & Price
Here's my black Leica M6 0.85 in good working order. It's a fantastic tool. Serial number is 2432526 corresponding to 1998, the last year of production of the M6, made in Solms, Germany. You're going to enjoy a lot the 0.85 magnification, especially if you shoot 50mm. I shoot mainly 35mm lenses and for me the 0.85 was a breeze! (I use glasses and I had no problems seeing the lines, you only need a bit of practice). If you shoot 28mm just pass this camera because ther...e's no 28mm framelines.
Body: it has many bubbles, please note that this is normal on some Leica M6 bodies and it's only a cosmetic matter
Rangefinder: crisp and aligned, there's a bit of dust inside but no problem at all.
Light meter: working properly and accurately Shutter speeds: all accurateRewind mechanism: in working order, but the rewind knob is a bit bent and presents wear from a previous repair (see last 3 pictures), frankly I haven't had any issues with it, I have been using it like that for many months, many rolls, and it works good. If you want to replace it that's very easy and the piece costs around $100 and you can do it easily yourself (I consider this camera as the perfect "user grade" -to walk around the city- so it wasn't a problem for me to use it like this).
These late M6s are the best in terms of Leica quality according to Leica master Youxin Ye:
"After production get back to Germany, quality became better, the M6 quality is better than the M4-2/M4-P. Since German did not make camera for some years, it took them some time to get back, the later production, the better quality. You need avoid early production M6 (Wetzlar), typical problem includes bad meter, silver coating oxidization in main prism, and light leak. Those problems solved in the later production after Leitz sold the company, production moved to Solms."
Also, this is a low production camera, only 3130 0.85 M6s were made, check out cameraquest for more, but I quote: ".85 production was only 3, 130 cameras before production shifted to the M6TTL .85. This means the first model .85 will be a future collectable due to the low production."
