I've been collecting for over 55 years and it is now time to let most of my personal collection go. This sword is a vet bring back item and was acquired many years ago in the U.S. I am listing several WW2 Japanese swords and they were all acquired from vets or their family. A word of note: I am not an expert on Japanese edged weapons or swords. These I kept simply because they came from the vet and in connecti...on with other articles I was looking for. All of the swords are EXACTLY like I found them. The only thing I did was remove the handle to show the tang for listing purposes. I use the eBay Global Shipping Program and overseas shipping costs will be included with the invoice you receive from them.Offered here is an original WW2 Japanese samurai-type sword. This sword is a vet bring back item from the Philippines Campaign and acquired in the U.S. The vet who brought it back was Tech. Sgt. Elmer Silver Jr. Tech. Sgt. Silver served in Co B, 126th Infantry Regiment, 32nd Infantry Division in the Philippines. This sword is EXACTLY like I got it and nothing has been removed or messed with except the handle which was taken off to show the tang of the blade for listing purposes. The sword is 34 inches in total length and the blade is 28 inches long. The blade width is 1 1/4 inches at the hilt and tapers to 1 inch at the tip. As the photos show, the tang is rusted and there are Japanese characters embossed on both sides. There are also some red paint marks on the tang. It does not look like a shortened sword. The handle is manta ray skin wrapped in medium brown cording. There are brass triple chrysanthemum devices under the wrapping on both sides. The handle has ornate metal hardware on the top and bottom. The scabbard is metal with ornate hanger. The scabbard has been covered with a leather sheath. This sheath has never been removed as it would destroy the character of the piece. The scabbard has some rusting around the throat and it has turned a nice dark patina. The blade is quite clean with no rust or pitting that I can see. There are a couple of small nicks in the blade edge. The blade has a nice clear temper line. The sword handle has a heavy silk purple and brown sword knot attached. It has never been off the sword as long as I've had it. There is also a leather cover for the handle but the stitching has come away but it will still fit over the handle. The leather covering the scabbard and the handle is fairly thin and looks as if it might be pig skin. The leather is scuffed and worn in places and there are a couple of tears and wear marks. I'm not sure what more I can add that the photos do not show. Please look at them carefully.This is an odd size to ship so the shipping costs reflect that.
