Original Description:
Small antique Victorian needlework sampler. Worked by Maria Bishop aged 11 years. Born in 1847 she completed the sampler in 1858. Fine stitchwork on cotton gauze with border and central decorations. The material has darkened over time but there are no major flaws. The legend reads: We cannot tell who next may fall beneath thy chastening rod: One must be first but let us all prepare to meet our God.Maria's birth and death details are inscribed on the back of the frame (see picture). Dim...ensions 24 x 24cm.
