I've been collecting for over 55 years and it is now time to let most of my personal collection go. This sword is a vet bring back item and was acquired many years ago in the U.S. I am listing several WW2 Japanese swords and they were all acquired from vets or their family. A word of note: I am not an expert on Japanese edged weapons or swords. These I kept simply because they came from the vet and in connecti...on with other articles I was looking for. All of the swords are EXACTLY like I found them. The only thing I did was remove the handle to show the tang for listing purposes. I use the eBay Global Shipping Program and overseas shipping costs will be included with the invoice you receive from them.Offered here is an original WW2 Japanese samurai-type sword and sword belt. This sword and the sword belt attached are Marine vet bring back items I acquired with some other gear from the vet's garage. I sometimes wonder how many of these swords were hung or just left in the garage or cellar after the war. This sword and the belt are EXACTLY like I got them and nothing has been removed or messed with except the handle of the sword which was taken off to show the tang of the blade for listing purposes. The sword is 39 inches in total length and the blade is 27 1/2 inches long. The blade width is 1 1/4 inches at the hilt and tapers to 1 inch at the tip. As the photos show, the tang is rusted and there are Japanese characters embossed into the steel on both sides of the tang. The blade itself in in very good condition with some very minor pitting in spots and some surface pitting around the tip. There is a clear temper line on the blade. The sword has a fitting that looks it into the scabbard. The handle is wrapped in brown cording the there are triple chrysanthemums under the wrapping on both sides of the handle. There is an ornate cap on the top and bottom of the handle. The metal scabbard is complete but surface rusting has given it a dark patina. There are ornate fittings on the throat, hanging ring and tip of the scabbard. The sword belt is of a nice quality blue dyed leather with brass fittings. The back of the belt is lined with black wool. All of the belt fittings are brass and the buckle is two piece with a chrysanthemum in the center. I do not know the significance of the buckle but would assume it is officer quality. The leather portion of the belt has been used and has some minor signs of wear with some light surface scratching and edge wear. The wool backing has some moth damage to it in a few places. I'm not sure what more I can write that the photo do not show. This is an odd size to ship so the shipping costs reflect that.
