This is a Japanese WWll Army officer`s sword in mountings. The blade is signed "Ishido Mitsunobu with kao 石堂光信 花押", shinogi-zukuri shape, WWll time period ca. 1940 era made blade. Mitsunobu lived in Omiya city, Saitama prefecture, made swords during WWll time and after the war as a Gendaito smith, listed in John Slough`s book page 113. The blade is hand forged, in old polish, shows fine scratche...s but no rust, no stain and in good condition. The temper line is wavy gunome with choji active temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. Forging grain is tight itame-hada, no openings, no blister and no forging flaws. There is no bend, no nick, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is heavy metal scabbard, no dent, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut, no loose also in good condition. Tsuba, seppa, fuchi and lock pin are matched number 20 stamped. Lock mechanism works fine. It measures 25" tip to the guard, 23+7/8" cutting edge, 1+1/8" width, 6.5 mm thickness at the notch and 38" in mountings. Shipping is $25 priority in U.S. Payment dues within 3 days auction end.
