Description:This canton enamel vasewas acquired from a luxury Canadian estate sale of diplomat James Spencer wholived and worked in China during the 1930s. Mr. Spencer chose antiques for his personalcollection very carefully so that each piece would be eventually exhibited ina museum or would be an excellent investment. You will be fascinated withthe skillful details of the court scenes on ena...mel sections located on the bodyand on the neck of the beautiful vase. One side of the vase’s body depicts fivecourt officials standing in a group inside the palace beside a huge decorating Chinesescreen. At the same time, the four guests are carrying presents to the palace, butthey encounter two armed guards who stand outside the entrance to the palace. Theopposite side of the vase’s body depicts a court’s tax office. The courtofficial in a red dress is controlling the work of the person in blue who iscollecting gold and the official in purple weighs it on the apothecary scales. Thecanton scenes are placed against a rich blue background. Dimensions:The dimensions of thevase are approximately 16 inches high by 8 ½ inches in diameter at the widestpoint. The bottom diameter is 6 inches. Condition:Good condition consideringage with some damage to enamel with some repairs. Important facts aboutthe vase:This wonderful vase hasa history of being on TV. It was presented on Chinese TV show organized by CNTVCanada National TV on September 18, 2014. The jury estimation was $20, 000 forthis valuable vase.
