This is a Japanese WWll Army officer's sword in mountings. The blade is signed "Bizen ju Sukenaga 備前住祐永", shinogi-zukuri shape, Edo period ca. 1800 era made old family blade. The blade is in old polish, shows fine scratches but no rust, no nick, no bend, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The temper line is attractive gunome-choji temper pattern throughout the b...lade and has omaru temper at the point. The forging grain is tight itame hada, no openings and no forging flaws. The scabbard is leather covered wood scabbard, shows aged wear but no crack, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit with iron fuchi/kashira, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut, no loose and in good condition. Tsuba is oval shape flower engraved iron higo tsuba with nice patina It measures 27+1/4" tip to the guard, 26+5/8" cutting edge, 1+1/8" width, 6 mm thickness at the notch and 38+3/4" in mountings.
