You are viewing a late Georgian watercolor portrait of a gentleman. From his style of clothing and his wig, I would guess that it was painted in the second half of the 1700s, possibly around 1780. The painting is unsigned, but the sitter has an endearing smile on his face. The image measures approximately 11 1/2 inches by 10 inches. It is framed in what looks like a period frame (the "lip" is water-gilded) which measures approximately 14 1/2 by 12 3/4 inches.&nb...sp; It is unsigned. On the back is written, "Unknown portrait of late C18th gentleman. Purchased in Wilton in 1988" This date has been over-written by some unscrupulous person to look like like 1888. The watercolor painting is in good condition with minor wear around the margins and a light surface scratch on his left cheek which could be touched up by a restorer. Some dings and wear to the mahogany frame and gilded lip. Please note I have removed the glass and won't be shipping it with the portrait. Please refer to photos and feel free to ask any questions.
