18th - 19th C. Islamic Ottoman Turkish Wootz Damascus YATAGAN Sword with Gold Work. Beautiful example of the fearsome Ottoman weapon used by Turkish Janissaries. With extensive gold Koftgari work to the lower grip and traditionally re-curved blade. Including Arabic calligraphy of Koranic scripts, possible date and intricate floral scrolls. Blade with areas of visible watered patterns of the Wootz Damascus steel. Fine walrus grips with large eared pommel. Inlaid wi...th series of gold dots. A very attractive example with outstanding quality blade.
