You are bidding on an original first version MITS ALTAIR 8800 with the low capacity power supply and the later 18 slots thick backplane.The backplane is a replacement for the original 4 slot one. None of the front panel wiring has been re-installed. The soldering pads of the front panel are showing traces of welding. Two of the pad, as pictured, have missing copper on the solder side. The one on the horizontal edge (pad #2 from the left of the front panel solder side, labelled 80) has ...its foil on its component side so it can be fixed. The other one on the vertical edge (pad #6 from the bottom on the front panel solder side, labelled ?) may need to be fixed by soldering on its via. If the board is revision one, it might not be needed.One of the switch has a detached solder pad but the copper trace is still attached to the switch.One of the connector does not have card guide and one has a broken one, but is included if one wants to repair it.
The front panel wires have been unsoldered and will need to be reinstalled for a working front panel. Therefore, the front panel cannot be tested and this unit is being sold as-is, as described. Some screws or nuts are also missing.
The manuals are showing water marks.The first manual is the ALTAIR 8800 OPERATORS MANUAL and is missing page 21 and on its reverse page 22. The last page is page 92.The other manual is then ALTAIR 8800 ASSEMBLY MANUAL and an addenda's.They are missing their front pages. The Assembly manual is missing pages 41 to 46, double sided and the last page is page 76.There is a WARNING Page and two ADDENDA pages.One of the Addenda is an ERRATA page and the second one is a grounding modification sheet.
I will prepare a +5V testing probe for the front panel LED and report later this week the results.
The unit was bought as is from an estate. It is in very clean condition as can be seen from the pictures and will make the core of a very good restauration project. The grey cover show some small stain on the top of it and the blue bottom hardly have any scratches.There is no sign of corrosion.
