The... blade represents the opportunity to own a historic Shintokatana, ca. 1600s, from the well-known swordsmith Shimosaka Kunihiro. The blade and the mountings are in Near MINT condition. The swordhas a blade length of 26.75 inches (68 cm). The blade features a well-grained itame hada that mixes with a burl mokumehada in the ji and a straighter masame hada along the edge. Thehamon is a Mino-style gunome midare ofundulating peaks in the style of the famous Mino swordsmith Kaneuji. The hamon ispresent the length of the blade through the kissaki where it ends in a maru boshi with some streaking kaen.There are activities like sunagashi, inazuma, kinsuji, and yubashiri in andalong the hamon.The tang is signed Echizen Ju Shimosaka Kunihiro Saku, and ubu, or unshortened. Kunihiro wasa member of the well-known ShimosakaSchool, a group of swordsmiths working from Echizen province in the 1600s. Theywere affiliated with the famed Yasutsugu school who originated from theShimosaka school. Their swords were well-known for the high quality manufactureand cutting prowess. The blade comes in shirasaya mountings. They are in Near MINT condition. The blade is in Near MINT condition. There are no nicks, a few small spotsof rust or stains, and few scratches. There do not appear to be any major flawslike hagire.Given the condition, the highquality craftsmanship, and history of the sword, I think this piece would be anoutstanding addition for a collectorof WW2 militaria or Japanese swords.Terms and additional items: This item is original and not aknockoff or fake.
