Rare, one-of-a-kind historic piece of Phillies memorabilia. In September, 1964, the Philadelphia Phillies had an insurmountable 6.5 game lead with just 12 games to play. A 10-game losing streak cost the Phillies a trip to World Series that year. For sale here is a game used and inscribed baseball from Phillies co-ace Chris Short from his last victory prior to the skid...September 14, 1964. In this game, Short went the distance to win his 17th game of the season, 4-1 vs. the Houston Col...t 45's at pre-Astrodome Colt Stadium in Houston. Short pitched a complete game giving up just the one run. The Phils were 87-57 after that game, and cruising toward the World Series until fate intervened. This ball was used in that game by Chris Short, and inscribed in Short's hand with the game score of "Phils 4, Colts 1", and the date, as well as the number "49" which was his career win #49 in this game. Ball comes with a LOA from Hunt Auctions signed by Chris Short's widow, Patricia (see pictures). A rare and historic ball from a legendary season, with the last win from Chris Short from that season. Thank for looking.
