Antique Chinese Qipao Cheongsam Black Silk Peony Embroidered Banner Dress Vtg
Item History & Price
This vintage Chinese qipao cheongsam black silk blue peony embroidered banner dress dates from the 1930s. It is made of a black silk satin weave charmeuse fabric with blue ombre and white raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work peony flowers which are a symbol of love and affect...ion, representative of good luck. There is a light blue silk damask weave woven flower pattern fabric lining inside, with black and white silk trim edging, spiral scrolling padded trim toggle closures. Manchu women wore a one-piece dress which were called "qipao" or "banner dress" and later became the traditional dress for Chinese women. This beautiful black and blue peony Chinese cheongsam dress has a fitted style, is a long below the knee length, with 3/4 length sleeves, side slit vents, knotted silk toggle closures along the side (1 missing) and is fully lined in a blue silk damask weave floral pattern fabric with drawn cutwork trim edging underneath the skirt hem. The dress measures 52 inches long, with a 36 inch bust, 34 inch waist and 42 inch hips. It is in good condition, with only a few faint small stains on the inside skirt lining and a cut small hole on the inside front top lining (see close-ups). This is truly a wonderful quality custom made piece of Chinese cheongsam wearable art!
