Amazing 33rd Indiana ID'd Civil War Photo Album and Massive Research Binder
I have something here that is very special. A wonderful Civil War photo album in very good condition containing not only 13 identified "thumbprint" tin pictures of Indiana solders from Company D, 33rd Indiana Veteran Volunteer infantry but also CDV's of many of the union generals, 4 of Lincoln, A soldier in full dress with gun and more. All of the photos are... in very good condition and more are identified. Please see the photos to see more, first I will start with the Abraham Lincoln pictures. The first one is in color and says: "In Commemoration of our Immortal President Abraham Lincoln", his birth and death information, and his signature followed by a lower caption concerning an Act of Congress - "Our Martyr".There is also a CDV of a portrait of Lincoln, another engraved picture of Lincoln "Late President of the United States, Assassinated April 14th, 1864" The last CDV of Lincoln is of Lincoln and his son "President Lincoln and his son, Master Thad" The CDV Union Officers are as follows: Major-General W.T. Sherman, Lt. General U.S. Grant, McPherson, Major-General Geo. H.Thomas, Major-General Joe Hooker, and one unidentified Union Soldier with a large mustache. There is a photo of man with star on a uniform jacket. Also a CDV is a gentleman and on the reverse says "Yours Truly J.G. Albright"Three additional CDV's of well dressed young gentlemen, one with a star on his jacket, no names on the back, possibly 33rd members. There is also a photo of an unnamed soldier is in full dress with gun. The members of Company D 33rd Indiana Veteran Volunteer Infantry are as follows (after their names they say Co.D 33 Ind, Vet. Vol. Inf")Sylvester Adams, William Lenox, William Bumgarner, Jas McKinney, J.G. Albrite (possibly the same gentleman pictured in a suit) Shelby Seison, F.M. Roberts, David Feitly, John Young, G.W. Galt, H.L. Clark, G.H. Drum, and Jacob Brown. Again they all identify themselves as belonging to the 33rd and i've tried my best to give the correct names however some of the writing is at best difficult to read. There are 9 stamps on the backs of these photos ranging from 2 cents to 5 cents. To the best of my knowledge i believe this album belonged to a "Mr. Nathan Stafford and Betsey Stafford" their names appear in the front and back of the album in pencil.
The album measures 5.5 x 4.25" ornate album with the word album in gold on the outer binding and a gold decorative clasp.
I have tried to describe to the best of my ability all 29 of the images, only one blank frame in the album. This is truly a passport to history with an impressive research binder included.
