FOR BIBLIOPHILES AND WOULD-BESCHOLARS—English Poetry from the 1600S Another offering from my early English literature shelf. I just have to face the fact that I’m notgoing to get around to reading this. Myreading list of books ahead of this is just too steep! Up for auction is a nice volume of The Poems of Richard Lovelace edited byC.H. Wilkinson published by Oxford University Press. I confess I don’t know why I ever got this book. It wasn’t fr...om my areas of specialty ingraduate school and I really don’t know anything about Richard Lovelace. I know that these date from the 17thCentury and that many of them doubled as songs and were once set to music. The musical settings are not included in thistext. If they were, I’d probably keepit. Many of these poems were addressed toa lady, whether real or rhetorical I don’t know. If you’ve gotten this far, you probably knowmore than I do about Richard Lovelace. Unlike most of the other books I have up for auction now, this English is more modern. However, the text is set typographically similar to the original 17th C.book. This means you’ll have to adjustto things like “s” being rendered “f” with the crossbar not continuing past thestem. It’s a pretty easy adjustment andactually makes you feel like you’ve done a little time travel. But you need to be aware of this. I can’t actually type this on my machine, buthere’s a sample line: Then from thy firme felfe never fwerve (Then from thy firmself never swerve) Condition Excellent++ unread condition, really near fineBound in navy blue buckram with Oxford Univerity’s coat ofarms impressed in the front boardSpines straight and clean with reddish gold stamping thatlooks a little faded, but if so it’s from time not sun or useBoards are clean with no damageHinges firm and intactPages clean and bright and suppleBinding strong and tightPrevious owner’s bookplate on inside frontNo highlighting or underlining; as mentioned this was neverreadOriginal dust covers intact but with sun fading and slightdiscoloration around the perimeters; about a ½” tear and fold on back I will gladly combine shipping for multiple items. If you findthat I’ve missed something, please contact me first rather than leaving nuclearfeedback. We can work out asolution. Feel free to ask questions inadvance. I am not an antiques or commercial dealer, just a personwith too many interests who doesn’t like to get rid of things. Everything I’m selling is “stuff” I’veaccumulated over the years, not something “picked” for resale on eBay. It’s just time to start letting go…and makemy wife happy. Please see my otherauction items, including other catalogs. Thank you and happy bidding!
