Original Description:
ORIGINAL LITHOGRAPH"VILLAGE OF CONTOVELLO"ARTIST BOGDAN GROM This is a superb beautiful Original Lithograph, Signed & Numbered by famed Italian/Slovenian/American Artist Bogdan Grom (1918-2013). He entitled it, "Village of Contovello". Here, the artist gives us earthtones in rich browns and beiges as he presents a striking image, dramatized as well by washes of blacks and grays. The "Village of Contovello" is a real village in northeastern... Italy near Trieste. It is located on the crest of the Karst Plateau (the Trieste Karst) overlooking the Gulf of Trieste, the northeasternmost part of the Adriatic Sea. (Note – A karst is a rocky limestone surface with water through soluble stone beneath).  Contovello (and its surrounding area) was Slovenian before Italy annexed the area in 1918. Contovello's neighboring village, Prosecco, is famous in Italy for a particular vineyard, home of one of the country's most famous wines.  Mr. Grom identified five periods of years for his paintings. The third period he called the Trieste Period (1948-1957). This "Village of Contovello" Original Lithograph is based on images in his paintings from that period.  Mr. Grom was born in Prosecco/Trieste in 1918. He lived in a number of cities in Europe before studying in the Academies of Fine Arts in Perugia, Rome, and Venice where he graduated in 1944. In 1957 he moved to the United States and lived and had his studio for many years in Englewood, New Jersey. He earned and received American citizenship. The artist was featured in the New Jersey Monthly (July 9, 2008, "Nonstop Nonagenarian") where Writer Jessica Kitchin noted: "In his nearly nine decades, Bogdan Grom has created art in just about every medium you can imagine, including watercolor and oil paintings, sculpture, cutouts, charcoal, and textiles." "Grom's works can be found all around the world …in gallery shows, private collections, and as major installations." She continued: "Grom's love of nature is at the heart of most of his works and a major reason he moved to the Garden State in the early 1980s, a block away from Flat Rock Brook Nature Center, a 150-acre preserve on the western slope of the Palisades. 'I never belonged in a city, and I always loved nature, ' he says. 'Here in New Jersey, I am surrounded by nature'." She concluded: "He will be traveling to Ljubljana (Slovenia) – a city he once called home – for an exhibit in October (2008)."  The Embassy of Slovenia honored Mr. Grom September 25th, 2009 in Washington, D.C., with a retrospective of "his extensive body of work from 1947 to 2008". Mr. Grom’s sculpture, "The Sentinel", stands at the entrance of the Embassy, where he has been called a "Slovenian-Italian virtuoso"! The artist had numerous one-man shows internationally – in Europe, the U.S., Japan, and elsewhere around the world. His work is included in numerous private and corporate collections, as well as in such public collections as the White House Collection. Mr. Grom’s events continued when the Belskie Museum of Arts and Science in Closter, New Jersey in June-July 2011, held the exhibition, "Bogdan Grom: Artistic Vision in Space and Time".  Author John DeFazio in his Cromwell Editions book, “Bogdan Grom” (1996) described Mr. Grom’s work like this: "What makes Grom truly unique as an artist is the training and experience he is able to bring to bear to each project. His training is that based on the now lost Fine Art Academy of the European Tradition, deeply rooted in, initially, the drawing of human figures and then on to a mastery of all the media at the disposal of the artist: painting, printmaking, ceramic sculpture, stone carving and bronze casting, tapestry, mosaics, and book illustrations."  "Grom, however, is not an academic artist, he is thoroughly of the Modern Tradition, that is, his work is the expression of pertinent content through communicative art form, rather than an academic focus on form. His rich training acts as a foundation to his development of modern techniques such as paper cutouts, welded sculpture, kinetic sculpture, fabric sculptures, silk-screening, photography, and the laser cutting and fabrication of works. All these media and techniques, both traditional and modern, free Grom to address each project on its own terms and to create a unique work of art that is responsive to the context and adds resonance to the place in which it stands." (ibid.). Mr. Grom died November 18th, 2013 at the age of 95. The North Jersey Newspaper reported: "He worked prolifically in all mediums, from oils to charcoal, aluminum to bronze, tapestry to stained glass, paper to wood." Mr. Grom will be sorely missed.  This "Village of Contovello" Original Lithograph is number 49 from the artist's limited edition of 200 lithographs plus Proofs. Its image size is 19" high by 21" across; its paper size 21½" by 26".  The piece is in new condition, having been kept in a Mylar sleeve, climate-controlled, and never framed.  It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from the original international distributor of the limited edition.  This is a very well-known, famous and very collectible, Original Lithograph from a renowned International Artist. Copyright 2019 Artanew.US   RE: PACKING & SHIPPING – The shipping cost includes shipping the artwork in a special, hard, 4-inch-diameter fine art shipping tube that we purchase from a company in Atlanta, Georgia, especially for that purpose.
