Item: Batonga (Tonga) Winnowing Basket (E9) Size: 60 cm, (Average Depth 9 cm)   Medium: Palm Grass Weaving & pigment. Region: Zambia/ Zimbabwe. Context: Used for winnowing millet for food and beer.
 Made from palm grass by the female members of the Batonga tribe in the border country between Zambia and Zimbabwe. These baskets are still in regular use in the villages today and a represent a charming example of Batonga material culture. Thei...r striking design and finely woven texture make an interesting modern decor addition whether displayed singularly or collectively.
