Up for auction is a rare Buffalo head Pipe Tomahawk. It is 24-1/2" long overall. Tacked near the top. The hawk is file branded, drilled once for suspension. It has 16 tacks along the top. A fairly plain handle. The head is one of a kind. Buffalo Head Effigy. Drilled 4 places. 2 for nostrils and 2 for eyes. The head is 11-1/2" long by 2-1/2" wide, cut out like horns. Very cool. The eye is a 6 sided eye. The bowl sits 2" above the eye. The bowl measures 7/8" in diameter. inside of ...the bowl is about 1/2" in diameter. The bowl is the end of a gun barrel. The blade is bent slightly. I have only seen a couple of these heads. The hawk is 100% Sioux, collected around mobridge south dakota in the 1920's. I purchased this piece from John Baldwin. I put the beaded drop in the suspension hole about a year or so ago as it also came from a Mobridge South Dakota Collection. It seemed fitting. The drop is about 13" long overall and beaded 11-1/2" of its length. The drop has tin tinklers and is brain tanned leather. This hawk was pictured on page 52 of Collectors of Historic and Prehistoric Artifacts. I have owned this hawk for several years now. A very rare offering for e-bay. I have decided to sell certain historic pieces from my collection. This hawk should date in the 1850's era. Pipe does draw. Leather gasket, missing cleanout hole plug.
