The 'sack coat' (20 mm) size button, with the desirable raised mark, depressed channel (rmdc) "WATERBURY BUTTON CO. *" backmark in a mottled channel, is specifically listed by Albert as ...GI94A5 and by Tice as GEN215A44. On page 50, Tice dates this backmark to 1861-1865.
The cuff or kepi (15 mm) size button with the depressed-mark backmark "WATERBURY BUTTON CO. *" is listed as Albert's GI94A5 and Tice's GEN215A. Only McGuinn and Bazelon specifically list the cuff backmark, which they report is also found on MS35 (Civil War-type Massachusetts staff) cuffs
Both examples are in good condition with no pushes and some evidence of aging and wear or use. The coat size specimen also has a slightly bent shank (see side image).
