Original Description:
Small late 19th century sampler by Anna Hastings aged 13 - 1876. Worked in wool on soft gauze, this little sampler is completely charming with neat stitch work throughout. The upper and middle sections of the gauze are stitched with rows of alphabet letters, numbers and border patterns, whilst the lower section contains Anna's details and the date of 1876 with the advise - Watch and Pray - stitched beneath with a small floral motif to the right.The gauze has overall discolouration cons...istent with its age, slightly darker in places, and the colours of the thread are good with some minor bleeding to some of the stitch work. The last photo is of the reverse of the sampler and indicates how the colours would have looked when Anna first stitched it. Measures 7" x 8 1/2"
