Rare Civil War Era 5 X 7 Tin Type Picture Soldier Holding Officers Slouch Hat SC

Even though this gentleman in this picture is not in a formal uniform, the key to dating this picture is that he is holding what looks to be a officers military slouch hat that was worn during the Civil War. You can see the cord around the hat and what looks to be a tassle hanging down in front. This 5 by 7 tin type came from a sale in South Carolina so I would believe him to be a Confederate soldier which would explain maybe why he's not in a more formal dressed uniform.&#...160;A Union soldier would have a formal uniform on wheras as the southern soldiers in a lot of cases may not have had a formal uniform. I have no way to verify when the picture was made but what I see in the picture makes me believe its around the Civil War time. The jacket looks to be heavy wool and there is two what I call breast buttons, one on the right side is clearly visible and the one on the left side is partially visible. I can't make out any design on the buttons. I have taken several pictures of the hat and chest areas so you can see and make your own determination. The jacket looks to have a design or pattern in the material and i don't know if this pattern helps or not in determining anything. I am not an expert. As you can tell there is some areas where there is some loss of the picture from bends and scraping, but still looks good for its age. There is an area across the middle where it looks like it was bent at one time and there is some loss of the picture. The back has a copper color and had a sticker on it one time and there is what looks to be part of a newspaper stuck to it. I did a closeup of the piece of newspaper.
