Excellent example of a classic “Art Mission Bookcase Unit” made by the Globe-Wernicke Company from Cincinnati, OH. Often referred to as a Barrister’s Bookcase. Background: Made in Quarter-sawn White Oak; often referred to as “tiger stripe, ” this item is a made up of the following sections: One, D-X Top unit One, D-8 ½ 20-lite leaded glass top section (“Square Leaded Mission”) One, #D-12¼ section One, #D-10¼ section One, Size D, Art Missio...n Leg-drawer base The 299 ½ designation denotes “quarter sawed figured oak, golden finish, dull brush-finished brass hardware, ” as noted in the manufacturer’s literature. Based on our research this unit is circa 1900-1929. Purchased at auction from a collector. Note that while similar units are not that difficult to find, this is from the “Art Mission” line from Globe-Wernicke. Combined with the “Square Leaded Mission” glass unit and you have what appears to be a very rare piece. Beautiful piece that is in excellent condition. There is a small amount of damage at the top right corner, but that is minimal, and the piece is otherwise in outstanding condition, with no watermarks, etc. and excellent aging/patina. Finish is well-preserved and the leaded glass is perfect, with the wave you would expect for a piece of this age. This is a wonderful piece, that will fit with any decor or be an excellent conversation piece. I would prefer to sell this locally in the Northeast Ohio area, but if you want it shipped I will under the following conditions: 1. Buyer chooses the shipper. (PackShip USA, a well-respected furniture shipper, is local to me.)2. Buyer pays all shipping costs.3. Buyer releases seller from any and all liability/damage.
