Becauseof its rich colors, high degree of crystal development, and interestingmineralogical associations in composite specimens, spessartine is one of themost widely collected of the garnet-group minerals and very well regarded. Spessartineand other colored garnet-group minerals were also among the first crystals everused as gemstones. Spessartine or spessartite is manganese aluminiumgarnet, Mn3Al2(SiO4)3.
