Rare and VERY beautiful, ca1950’s Native American Northern Plains / Sioux Indian Bead Decorated, Fringed Hide Dress. This outstanding mid 20th century Brain Tanned Hide Dress measures approx. 33" long overall with a 32” chest. The decoration is all hand spot stitched and the Dress features extensive rawhide fringe to the openings of the arms, down the sides and a double line at the bottom of the hemline.
This wonderful Northern Plains Older Child’s Dre...ss is thread sewn and features spot stitched lanes of beadwork decoration across the front and back of the upper chest, at the border of the collar, around the arm opening and above the hemline. The beadwork is executed using colors of white, orange, marigold, and blue. There is a stunning line of long, rawhide fringe at the arm openings as well as along the hemline. The double strand, rawhide drops are strung with basket beads as can be seen in the scans below and feature cowry shell danglers. The Dress is made from a wonderfully soft, brain tanned hide and features approx. 70 cowry shells.

This rare and very beautiful, ca1950’s Northern Plains Indian Bead Decorated Dress is in excellent condition. All of the hide elements are well preserved and sound – soft and supple with very minimal, light soiling only. There are no repairs or damage of any kind to the hide elements. The beadwork is well preserved with no loss or damage. The hide fringe is also very well preserved with no damage or loss and all original cowry shells are present.
