This is a Japanese WWll Naval officer`s sword in kaigunto mountings. The blade is signed "Miyaguchi Kunimori saku kore 宮口国護作之", shinogi-zukuri shape, WWll time period ca. 1940 era made blade. His real name is Miyaguchi Shigeru, born in 1897, trained by his father Masatoshi, also studied under Kasama Shigetsugu. In July 1933 he become a master swordsmith for thr Nihonto Tanrenkai, located at the grou...nd of Yasukuni shrine and was given name Yasuhiro. In Jan. 1937, he became head instructor for the Okura Tanrenjo, applied the smith name Ikkansai Kunimori or Miyaguchi Kunimori on swords made at the Okura Tanrenjo, listed John Slough`s book page 182, 183, 184 and rated 1, 8 Million yen. The blade is in old polish, no rust, no stain and in good condition. The temper line is wavy gunome choji temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. There is no bend, no nick, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is ray-skin covered wood scabbard, no tear, no dent, no crack, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut, no loose and in good condition. Lock mechanism works fine. Tsuba and seppa are matched number 39 stamped. It came with brown naval sword tassel, no cut, no fade and in excellent condition. It measures 26+1/8" tip to the guard, 25+1/4" cutting edge, 1+3/16" width, 6.5 mm thickness at the notch and 37+3/4" in mountings.
