You are bidding on a set of 8 x 60 WWII u-boat binoculars produced by the German BEH Leitz company around 1942-1943. The binoculars have a serial number of 430704. The binoculars come with the original case and the neck strap although I am unsure if the neck strap is original or has been replaced. Given the condition of the binoculars I am comfortable saying it is original. Overall the binoculars are in good condition there is one spot on one of the tubest where a l...ittle bit of the grip coating has come off, see images, but other than a few minor paint chips/bumps there are no major dents or dings to the set. The eyepieces are some type of soft rubber. There is a green filter or lens inside the eyepiece that darkens the image during the daylight. With the eyepieces removed the optics appear to be less than optimal. I was unable to get a clear infocus image on objects that were about 100 yards away, While image is recognizable I could not get a clear/sharp focus. The case is original and appears to be made of, at least on the outside, leather. Both straps, the one that secures the lid/top and the carry strap, are in good shape as is the case itself. The strap for the top/lid secures to a protruding button on the bottom of the case. Unfortunately the binoculars inside the case are just a bit to large to fit into a USPS flat rate box. They are also a bit on the hefty side, not something you would want around you neck all day while birdwatching or hiking. I will still ship these priority mail and insure them for whatever the purchase price happens to be.
