How they built submarines in Wisconsin, floated them down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico and sent them off to illustrious careers in WWII. The shipyard in Manitowoc garnered a reputation for building the finest of subs.
Online Review; "Having ri...dden one of the Manitowoc boats for quite a number of years I was quite absorbed in the story of the shipyard and the people who built the finest submarines to fight the war. The author knows much more of the story of the shipyard than I will ever know and to share that story with the rest of us is a testiment to the people of the yard and the men who rode the boats. My boat was built in 1944 and sold to a foreign government in 1970 to serve them for another few years. I attend the reunion at Manitowoc which is for both the sailors who rode the boats and the folks who built them. The pride the admiral describes in his book is still present today ( 2011) in the great people who built those magnificent machines. For any submarine buff this should be required reading."
Very good condition with only slightly bumped corners and spine ends. Paperback. Great early photographs.
