This is a Japanese WWll Naval Landing Force officer`s sword in type 44 mountings. The blade is signed "Emura saku 江村作", shinogi-zukuri shape, WWll period ca.1944 era made blade. Emura was the director of Okayama Prison and utilized prison labor to help him produce swords for the war effort, listed in John Slough`s book page 28. The blade is traditional hand forged, in old polish, no rust, no stain and in excel...lent condition. The temper line is gunome-choji temper pattern and has deep temper at the point. The forging grain is tight itame-hada no opening, no blister and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is ishimeji finish lacquered wood scabbard, no dents, no crack, no bend and in excellent condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut, no loose and in good condition. Lock mechanism works fine. It measures 27+1/8" tip to the guard, 26+1/8" cutting edge, 1+1/4" width, 6.5 mm thickness at the notch and 40+1/4" in mountings.
