NO BIDDING - NO WAITING Here is a very early Consolidated Fruit Jar Company one quart screw top clear all glass jar. It is known that Consolidated was producing Mason jars as early at 1859-60. Study the superimposed CFJ Co. monogram logo carefully and you will see it is an early version. Also note that there is exaggerated spacing between the center line of the lettering: between the S & O in Mason, the space ...between Nov. and 30th, and between 18 and 58. The space where the comma is in Mason's is also large enough for another letter to have been dropped in. This has a ground threaded lip. There are numerous air bubbles in the glass; the largest is about 1" centered on the back. There is also a notable one in between the 30 and th. The depressed base has the number 14 molded into it. One of the unusual distinctions of this jar is the washboard or whittled appearance to the glass that results from not having preheating the mold sufficiently before pouring in the glass. No physical damage. Disclosures: missing the zinc lid; and, normal use and storage marks. A great early jar with lots of character marks. Condition - good or better used as found original as noted above. Kindly ask me to adjust your invoice if you wish to insure your purchase.
