A Caldas Rainha Portuguese pottery Palissy style wall plaque made by Jose A Cunha circa 1885. Beautifully decorated in relief with snake, lizard, beetle, butterfly and caterpillars on a shredded grass ground. Overall very good condition for age, colours and glaze are fresh and bright, but there are a few faults to this piece. The tip of the large beetles head is missing as is part of the back left leg. The brown and green caterpillar has little bits chipped from tip of head and tail. T...he snakes fangs are chipped. The shredded green grass has the odd little chip. Measures 24cm (9 1/2") in diameter. Impressed Jose A Cunha, Caldas Rainha back stamp.
