ITEM: This is a vintage & original 1928 production photograph of Maria Falconetti, also known as Reneé Jeanne Falconetti, as the title character in The Passion of Joan of Arc, a silent French historical film based on the actual trial record of Joan of Arc.
The film was shot on one huge concrete set modeled on medieval architecture in order to realistically portray the Rouen prison. Director Carl Theodor Dreyer didn't allow the actors to wear make-up and used lighting designs that made them look grotesque. It is widely regarded as a landmark of cinema, especially for its production, Dreyer's direction and Falconetti's performance, which is often listed as one of the finest in movie history.
Measures 8" x 10" on a glossy single-weight paper stock.Typed film ID and MOMA ink stamp on verso.
CONDITION: Fine condition with a pinhole in each margin corner. Please use the included images as a conditional guide.
Guaranteed to be 100% vintage and original from Grapefruit Moon Gallery.
