FPU--free pickup encouragedK&G Enterprises, purveyor of collectible, vintage, andantique merchandise (e.g., John Rogers Statuary*), is pleased to place inauction one of John Rogers most memorable iconic groups, COUNCILOF WAR depicting the actual first meeting that Lincoln, Grant, and Stanton held as they began planning the Union’s incursion into the South. Duringthis meeting Stanton being puzzled with what Grant was proposing, asked him why he wasn’t taking a more direct route ...to Richmond. Stanton was old school.Grant, along with Sherman and Sheridan were more like what we would refer to them as “modern”generals for their time. Paraphrasing Grant, he replied that his objective wasnot so much Richmond as it was Lee’s Army of Northern Virginia. Destroy Lee’sArmy and Richmond would fall into their laps like a tree’s ripe fruit.  BEST OFFER CONSIDERED.Rogers Groups I have previously listed, such as; the poly Fighting Bob, Football, and now, Pickett Guard (A) and Washington are also gone, gone, gone. Plus, all of this inventory is about to go away to a private collector/speculator independent of eBay in the next couple weeks--a great relief to yours truly. So if you have any inclination to acquire any of the groups I am putting on the block, you had best take action and intervene (which is OK) or lose the opportunity, most likely, for good. About all the time that's left now is this round of auctioning.
Todd Lincoln said of Rogers’ COUNCILOF WAR that working only from photographs, Rogers hadcaptured his father’s likeness better than any other attempts he had seen. COUNCIL OF WARis a large group standing 24” tall. Rogers did three versions. Version Ahad Stanton who was always cleaning his glasses, was cleaning them directlybehind Lincoln’s left ear. Hmmm? The public objected to the hurtful memory and the insinuation. So, version B had Stanton cleaning his glasses behind and overLincoln’s left shoulder. Folks still fussed. So, with Version C, Rogers gave upand had Stanton holding glasses and handkerchief at his side. Our example of COUNCIL OF WAR currently up for auction is a version B. This example of COUNCIL OF WAR is a nice repaint and its surface is forthe most part well intact having a few (very few) minor (very minor) losses in paintand for the most part few and not readily apparent surface rough spots. I’d like tothink this piece is priced to sell. Hope so anyway. COUNCILOF WAR used to go easily for 2500 to 3800 usd but I’m notasking anything close to that. Altho it is certainly not one of the more rare Rogers Groups,  COUNCILs generally don’t come on the market very often for thenumber that were produced because once acquired, owners are loathe to sellthem. So priced to sell, not easily come by, don’t let it get away.  500 usd cheaper than the last one most previously sold--not bad, huh?  S/H/I costs are estimated by eBay and hold onlywithin the contiguous 48 states of CONUS. Elsewhere, S/H/I will be calculatedon the basis of that specific destination. A piece as large as this will be professionallydouble-boxed or hauled by special carriage. The winning bidder's satisfactionis guaranteed for three days following delivery. Posting is done immediatelyupon receipt of a secured payment---paypal. Questions welcomed. Additionalpictures provided up request. FREE LOCAL PICKUP ENCOURAGED. Good luck with your bidding. Don’t let this exampleof this ICONIC group get away. (So gibt es hier keinen Platz für Widelinge.)
