Here's the "story" behind this poster:
Alright, so I get to the concert about two hours early because Lou Brutus (heavy metal radio show host) suggested that fans show up early to the show to get a customized lithograph poster. Basically, lithograph... posters are super high-quality posters printed on very sturdy / thick paper. They are considered an asset, meaning they (usually) increase in value due to the extremely high demand created by collectors.
There were two merchandise booths doing business next to the ticket stands outside of the venue. I walked about a quarter of a mile to the furthest booth where the lines were the shortest. Once I got to talk to the salesman, I asked him if these were the lithograph posters I had heard about on the radio. He talked to his boss, and said that they were indeed lithographs. Upon receiving one, I immediately took notice to the number 236 / 400 hand written (by the artist) in the bottom left hand corner confirming this was indeed a lithograph, and then made my purchase.
Next, I took it back to my car (without rolling it up) and immediately laid it flat down in the back of my trunk. Once I got home, I went inside, washed my hands, went back out to my car, and brought in the poster where it sat safe and sound for a day or two before I purchased my poster frame. I was not expecting to sell this work of art so soon, so I bought a nice frame for $75. I washed my hands once again before putting the poster in the frame. As I said, I was not expecting to sell this so soon. I wanted to keep it on my wall for about 10 years so it could increase in value, but I am tight on money right now, so I am putting it up for sale.
There were at least 30, 000 people at the concert (some estimates put it at 45, 000), and I noticed some fans had purchased this poster, rolled it up and kept it in their back pocket. Point is - the mintage was 400, but due to the fact that some people were not taking care of their merchandise, the actual number of quality posters is indeed under the 400 mintage mark
Packaging:
I spent two nights packing up this item to ensure safe delivery (see pictures). It has painters' tape on the glass frame (for safety purposes), followed by "cardboard foam, " followed by bubble wrap, and then more "cardboard foam." I next added two wooden "support beams" with "hard foam" struts to disperse any added weight to the frame, and not directly to the glass frame. This way, if UPS ships this item flat (vs. standing up) and they stack other boxes on top, the glass will not break. I do not trust UPS (or anyone for that matter) to pack and ship my items, therefore I made this shipping container myself.
In the following days after getting home from the concert, I searched eBay for sold listings of this poster, and saw they were selling for around $200 without a frame. I'm going to be nice and start the bid for this poster (minus the frame and shipping) at $100. UPS needs $65 for shipping (the wooden support beams and the size of the package is why it costs so much.) I am not going to be profiting off of the shipping. As a matter of fact, I will drop the shipping down to a flat $50. The frame was about $75... I will drop it to $50. Starting bid for this item is $200 ($150 plus $50 for shipping). I would not be surprised if this will sell in the future for $500 - $1, 000 after Metallica breaks up ten years or so from now. It's a good investment, and you are buying from a good collector / seller.
Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
I look forward to doing business with you!
