18th Century English Whieldon Type Tortoise Shell Decorated Creamware Plate. Condition is Used. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. This is an outstanding 18th century English Whieldon Type Tortoise Shell Decorated Creamware Staffordshire Plate. It measures approximately 9-1/4" in diameter with a shaped and molded rim and a border of alternating panels of raised diaper & star, basket weave within scrolls, and raised diaper & dot. The front and backside are both decorat...ed with a corresponding mottled tortoise shell decoration featuring green, blue, and brown, against the creamware body. It is in absolutely beautiful estate condition with NO chips, NO cracks, NO repairs, and NO restorations. It shows only authentic period production characteristics of stilt marks, tiny glaze skips in crevices of the shaped rim, and small dollops of the darker color (original to the plate) near the rim edge, all shown in the photos. The plate shows a faint, uniform crazing with minor utensil marks, visible when angled towards a bright light source. The backside shows authentic surface wear on the flat back.
