Offered in this sale is one of four Meissen porcelain figures that come fresh to the market from a private local estate collection (see 12th image). I have posted each of these for sale individually on Ebay today. If you are interested in mo...re than one item I do offer combined shipping which save on postage. The figure offered in this sale features a young girl standing in a fancy colorful dress with plumed hat playing what I believe is a mandolin. Immediately to her right is a bunch of loose hay. There is a young boy seated next to the hay. His right arm is holding a garland of flowers at the back of her neck with his right hand. His left hand is resting on his knee. It appears the at one time had something in his hand. Perhaps a small bunch of flowers which are now missing. It is marked on the underside of the base with a blue crossed swords mark and is also impressed 62 and has an incised mark which I cannot make out along with a small painted red number 23 which I presume is the decorators mark. I believe that this might be a very early piece and perhaps was modeled by Kaendler. The fact that the impressed number on the underside of the base on this piece is so close sequentially to the one on the other figure with children along with the similarity of the base edge design leads me to believe that these two may be from a particular series - perhaps designed by J. J. Kaendler in the 18th century. It measures roughly 6 1/8" tall x 4 3/4" long x 3 1/2" wide. The condition is good. The top end point of the mandolin is missing along with the tip of the girls left thumb which was holding it. Whatever it was in the boys left hand is also missing. I think he may have had a flower in his hand but not knowing the original model or sketch I cannot say for certain. It is minor none the less. There is also a small vertical sliver flake on the front side of the base edge. The delicate flowers petals in the garland band around the girls next is in unusually nice condition with only a couple minor bits of loss to the tips of a couple petals. The plumes on the girl hat are perfect and these is no damage of either of the figures necks. The flaws mentioned on this piece could be restored if you should choose, however, many collectors might decide to leave as it. Early unusual pieces of Meissen are becoming more and more difficult to find so this is a good opportunity to add to your collection.
