This signed piece is made by Muller Freres, French for Brothers. They made cameo and other glass from about 1895 to 1933. The factory was first located in Luneville, France then in nearby Croismare France till WW1. Of the 4 incredibly talented brothers I believe Desire made this piece. In 1929 he created a new line with iron worker Chapelle. Whereby the glass is blown into a metal frame, in this case a bird, in an ArtDeco style. The piece is hallow a...nd intended to be electrified. I don't know if anyone has ever unscrewed the back and put a light in it. I was going to try it, but decided to just leave it in "as found" condition. I'm sure it will look amazing when lighted. The marble on the bottom measures approximately 9 1/4 inches long X 5 1/2 inches wide. The top of the birds head is about 8 inches high. The piece is quite heavy because it is mounted on beautiful black Italian marble. There are no cracks, chips, flea bites or damage of any kind. It has a nice 100 year old patina on it.
