Vintage JOHN WAYNE cast and crew mug from the 1953 movie, Island in the Sky. Story line... John Wayne portrays pilot Captain Dooley who is forced to make an emergency landing in the frozen wilds of Labrador. Its a story of survival and the crews ultimate rescue. John Wayne would hand out these personalized mugs to cast and crew members at the end of production of his movies. This is the fifth mug that Bob Williams made for John Wayne. It's the traditional Wallace beige mug. This i...s the first mug to have a Bob Williams stamp on the bottom along with his new store location in Santa Ana, California. Condition of the mug is very good considering it is 66 years old. Has very light wear on the gold handle. When I tried to photograph the gold handle in detail, it picked up so many reflections from the surroundings I deemed them misleading. Images on the mug are clear and clean. Inside of mug is clear and non-stained. Clint Yeoman was a dear friend of ours and did a few pictures with the Duke. He was a crew member and was involved in set design. Upon his passing we acquired this mug. It has been in our storage for 44 years. This is an extremely rare piece of American movie memorabilia. Last one to auction on eBay sold in 2013.
